Dynamic spatial modelling in the Simile visual modelling environment

چکیده

This chapter addresses two issues. The first concerns the integration of dynamic and spatial modelling: there are numerous tools available for doing one or the other, but very little for supporting both. The second concerns the flexibility of available tools for representing space: most spatial modelling systems and GIS tend to constrain the user to a limited number of spatial representation frameworks. Simile (Muetzelfeldt and Taylor, 2001; Muetzelfeldt and Massheder, in press) is a visual modelling environment which has been developed for the dynamic modelling of ecological and environmental systems, and supports a wide range of ways of representing space: it therefore addresses both of the above issues in a single environment.

A Unified Approach for Representing Structurally - Complex Models in SBML Level 3

The aim of this note is to explore a unified approach to handling several of the proposed extensions to the SBML Level 3 Core specification. The approach is illustrated with reference to Simile, a modelling environment which appears to have most of the capabilities of the various SBML Level 3 package proposals which deal with model structure. Simile (http://www.simulistics.com) is a visual mode...

Modelling of the spatial distribution of the rare plant Lilium ledebourii

The aim of this study was modelling the spatial distribution ofLilium ledebourii (Baker) Boiss. based on ecological characteristics, in order to predict potential habitats for conservation of a rare plant. Knowledge of the spatial distributions of rare and threatened species and the underlying ecological factors plays an important role in regional conservation assessments and development planni...

Spatially-explicit competition indices and the analysis of mixed- species plantings with the Simile modelling environment

Individual-based modelling and analysis of forest experiments has been made more accessible to researchers with the advent of modelling environments like Simile from Simulistics.com. Individual-based analyses of tree growth data offer insights not possible with plot-based analyses, especially when the original experimental design has been compromised by mortality or other unforeseen events. The...

A dynamic assessment tool for exploring and communicating vulnerability to floods and climate change

In this article we propose an innovative approach to support a participatory modelling process for the exploratory assessment of vulnerability within the broad context of climate change adaptation. The approach provides a simplified dynamic vulnerability model developed within a conceptual model adopted e but very rarely made operational e by many international organisations such as the Intergo...

GAME OF COORDINATION FOR BACTERIAL PATTERN FORMATION: A FINITE AUTOMATA MODELLING

In this paper, we use game theory to describe the emergence of self-organization and consequent pattern formation through communicative cooperation in Bacillus subtilis colonies. The emergence of cooperative regime is modelled as an n-player Assurance game, with the bacterial colonies as individual players. The game is played iteratively through cooperative communication, and mediated by exchan...
